HE THIRD DAY OF THE IPG COL GIRDHARI SINGH MEMORIAL CUP WITNESSED TWO BACK TO BACK FIERCE BATTLES. The bright sunny day got all peeped up to come as a proof of the action that gave shape to the second day of IPG Col Girdhari Singh Memorial Cup. The first match of the day was played at 9:30 am between Jindal Panther and 61 Cavalry.

Match 1 Jindal Panther vs 61 Cavalry

The team composition for the first match was as follows:

Jindal Panther :Shubham Gupta (-2), Siddhant Sharma (+4), Maj Aman Singh (+1),Naveen Jindal (0) / Akshai Malik (0)

61 Cavalry: Capt. Mrityunjay Chouhan (-2)  Maj Aman Singh (+1)  Lt Col Vishal Chauhan (+4)  Basheer Ali (+5).

The first match of the day started off with a quick goal from Basheer Ali for 61 Cavalry Polo team. He was assisted by Col Vishal Chauhan from the left. The match progressed with a quick run from the right towards the goal by Siddhant Sharma, which led to a beautifully struck goal. The score was levelled at 1 – 1 after Siddhant Sharma’s goal. Basheer Ali provided a powerful long ball to Maj Aman Singh but Maj Aman Singh couldn’t convert it into a goal. A brilliant play was in action from the right wing by Jindal Panther. Siddhant Sharma completed the play and scored a beautiful goal. The first chukker ended with Jindal Panther in the lead by 2 – 1. The second chukker came into play with a long distance goal from Simran Singh Shergill. Continuing the play, Basheer Ali struck a goal for 61 Cavalry Polo team. Jindal Panther were ahead in the game by 3 – 2. Wasting no time after the goal, Col Vishal Chauhan scored one for 61 Cavalry to bring them to level. Basheer Ali ran towards the goal but a goal-line save from Simran Singh Shergill denied him the goal. The scores remained at 3 – 3 when Simran Singh Shergill hit a powerful shot towards the goal. The score was 4 – 3 after Simran Singh Shergill’s goal. A superb play was in play by the Jindal Panther team when Siddhant Sharma was fouled by 61 Cavalry. Siddhant Sharma converted the 30’ penalty into a goal and the second chukker ended at 5 – 3 with Jindal Panther in the lead. Basheer Ali was in full form in the third chukker and scored two goals in the chukker to end the chukker on 5 – 5. Basheer Ali missed a 60’ penalty in the final minutes of the third chukker. Akshai Malik came into play in place of Naveen Jindal. The last chukker of the match opened with a long shot towards the goal by Basheer Ali. 61 Cavalry were ahead in the game by 6 – 5 when Simran Singh Shergill struck a powerful shot towards the goal. Both the teams were levelled at 6 – 6. The match was in its final minutes when Akshai Malik struck a long powerful shot. The shot won Jindal Panther the match by 7 – 6.

Col Girdhari Singh ASC vs Rajnigandha Achievers

RAJNIGANDHA ACHIEVERS :Mr. Hurr Ali (-2), Mr. Deepak Udar (+1), Mr. Salim Azmi (+3), Matthew Perry (+6)

Col Girdhari Singh : Sep Ravindra Mang (-2),  Naveen Singh (+2 )  GS Pandher (+2) , Samir Suhag (+5)

The second match of the day started at 11:00 pm. It was a very crucial match for both the teams to qualify for the semi finals. The match started with a 0.5 point lead for Col Girdhari Singh ASC Polo team. The first chukker of the match didn’t witness a lot of goals until the 2:30 minutes were left for the chukker to end. Matthew Perry scored the first goal of the match and helped Rajnigandha start off with a lead. The score was 1-0.5 when Sep Ravindra Mang scored a brilliant goal for Col Girdhari Singh ASC Polo team. Matthew Perry, leading Rajnigandha Achievers from the front, scored two back to back goals in the closing minutes of the first chukker. The first chukker ended with Rajnigandha Achievers in the lead by 3-1.5. The fifth goal of the match was scored by Matthew Perry from a long powerful shot. The score was 4-1.5 when Salim Azmi scored a mind-blowing backhand goal from Matthew Perry’s ball. The score was 5-1.5 and Rajnigandha Achievers were easily scoring back to back goals. The chukker was progressing towards the final minutes when Matthew Perry fell off his horse. The match was paused and proper medical attention was given to him. Matthew Perry returned back in the field and the match continued with Salim Azmi scoring one more goal for Rajnigandha Achievers. Matthew Perry hit a long ball for Hurr Ali but he couldn’t convert it into a goal. The second chukker ended with Rajnigandha Achievers in the lead by 6-1.5. Matthew Perry makes a brilliant run towards the goal, is assisted by Salim Azmi and scores a fabulous goal for Rajnigandha Achievers in the third chukker. The scoreboard now shows 7-1.5 with Rajnigandha leading comfortably. Samir Suhag forms a beautiful play along with Naveen Singh and is fouled by Deepak Udar. Samir Suhag takes the 60′ penalty. The ball is hit powerfully towards the goal but Matthew Perry appears from nowhere and stops the ball from going into the goal. It was the moment of the day. Rajnigandha Achievers form a beautiful play and Salim Azmi runs with the ball from the right towards the goal, he is fouled mid-way and is awarded with a 40′ penalty. Salim Azmi couldn’t convert the penalty into a goal and the chukker ended on a score of 7-1.5.

The last chukker of the match came into play with two back to back goals from Naveen Singh for Col Girdhari Singh ASC. Rajnigandha Achievers were leading comfortably in the last chukker but Col Girdhari Singh gave them a hard time in the last chukker. Samir Suhag scored one after Naveen’s goals in no time. The score was 7-4.5 after Samir Suhag’s goal. Naveen Singh scored one more goal and the score was Rajnigandha with 7 and Col Girdhari Singh ASC with 5.5. Matthew Perry ran with the ball from the half, drifting past all the defenders scored a brilliant goal for Rajnigandha Achievers. The score was 8-5.5 in the final minutes when Naveen Singh scored one more goal and the match ended at 8-6.5.
