The United States Polo Association would like to congratulate two newly certified polo instructors Ashley Owen of Midland, Texas, and Paige Luplow of Houston, Texas.
The mission of the USPA Certified Polo Instructor Program is to identify and educate equine professionals by requiring industry standards for teaching the sport of polo. Special emphasis is placed on developing programs that will equip polo instructors to coach the next generation of polo students by promoting sportsmanship and safety, to facilitate a lifelong love of the sport. This is accomplished by providing guidelines for riding instruction, horsemanship, and introducing students to the sport in a safe, sequential manner, additionally offering certified instructors extensive managerial education. Tools used to accomplish this goal include instructive videos from leading experts, the USPA Certified Polo Instructor Manual, interactive teaching symposiums and clinics, written exams, and continued education courses in order to raise the level of polo instruction for the continued sustainability of the sport of polo.
Ashley initially began playing polo on the Texas Tech University Intercollegiate team. Originally from Texas, Ashley is currently teaching at the Midland Polo Club in Midland, Texas, where she has been since 2008. In 2016, she was asked to coach the Midland Interscholastic Girls team and under her instruction the team won the Central Regional tournament in 2017 and made it to nationals for the first time as a girls team.
Growing up in a polo family, Paige’s parents collectively played, managed, and taught professionally at the Houston Polo Club in Houston, Texas, for over 30 years. Following in their footsteps, Paige is currently on her tenth year teaching at the Houston Polo Club where she teaches both polo and all riding disciplines.
