Goose Creek Polo Team soars high during Florida winter season

gooseGoose Creek Polo Team, also playing under the banner of their auspicious sponsor Northen Trust, experienced a meteoric Winter season winning four out of five tournaments.

In January, playing as the Northern Trust Team, consisting of Maureen Brennan, Peke Gonzalez, Steve Krueger and Mariano Gonzalez, they dominated the Grand Champions 12 Goal Limited Edition Series – not only winning the tournament, but sweeping the awards clean: fifteen year old Peke Gonzalez was awarded the MVP Title. Maureen Brennan was awarded the Amateur BPP with Cachorra (bred by Daniel Gonzalez) and Mariano Gonzalez was awarded the Professional BPP with Bionica (bred by Goose Creek Polo).

“It was a real family affair” said Brennan. “Not only did Mariano and his son receive an award, but the horse I bred won for Mariano, and the horse his father bred won for me!” exclaimed a delighted Brennan.

Throughout the month of February the Northern Trust team remained undefeated in the 12 Goal USPA Sieber Memorial tournament, despite the fact that there were fourteen teams entered, and teammate Mariano Gonzalez added an MVP to his list of 2015 awards.

As winter turned into Spring the Goose Creek Polo Team turned up the heat winning the 18 Goal Liberty Cup with Brennan playing with Tommy Collingwood, Cote Zegers and Mariano Gonzalez; Tommy Collingwood receiving the MVP award and Gonzalez receiving another BPP this time with his little powerhouse chestnut mare “Cina Cina”. Goose Creek went on to also win the 18 Goal Patriots Cup with the same team lineup. In this exciting tournament Gonzalez was awarded yet another MVP.

“It’s been a pleasure playing with Maureen and getting to know the whole Brennan family” said a smiling Mariano Gonzalez, “We have built a successful relationship over the years and it comes from a place of mutual respect and quality values. I look forward to playing with the Goose Creek and Northern Trust Polo Teams again in the future.”

At the end of March Maureen finished the season on a high note by being awarded MVP in the 16 goal against Team USPA. Her team consisted of young guns Tommy Collingwood, Cote Zegers and Frankie Bilboa.

“Its been an absolutely amazing and unforgettable Winter season. I am grateful for my teammates, my family, all the staff and of course my incredible horses for a truly fun and successful season.” said Maureen. “This Summer I will be playing polo at my own Virginia International Polo Club as well as participating in some international matches and creating clinics. ”
