Costa Careyes hosted the 3rd Annual Copa de Oro (Gold Cup) and Copa de l Amitie’ on Saturday April 2. The two final teams were – Club de Polo Chantilly and Careyes. Jean-Edouard Mazery and Edouard Guerrand-Hermes from the Chantilly club in France with Nico Millan and Alberico Ardissone. The Careyes team was Carlitos Hernandez, Mani Boni from Germany, Giorgio Brignone, founder of the Careyes Polo Club and Hans Giebeler. This edition was particularly symbolic as the winning teams played also for the Coupe de l Amitie ( the Friendship cup ) which was first played in 1999 between Patrick and Mathias Guerrand Hermes for the recently launched Club de polo de Chantilly club and Giorgio Brignone with the the Costa Careyes Polo club .Both families know each other for ever , although living in different parts of the world . Since they are brother clubs and have shared many games and events.
Carlitos Hernandez and Nico Millan captained the exciting match between Club Chantilly de Polo and the Careyes Polo Team. The Chantilly club prevailed 6 to 4. Leading scorer for the visiting team was Nico Millan with 5 goals and Alberico Ardissone with one and for Careyes – Carlitos Hernandez with 2 and Giorgio Brignone with two goals.
After the game champagne was provided for all as well as Careyes owners with their one-of-a-kind vintage cars made a unique ending to the Copa de Oro. Several famous personalities were present during the event including the family of famous artist and sculptor, Fernando Botero, Fernando Jr and Lina.
Polo is played at the Costa Careyes Polo Club from November to April. Tournament play is scheduled for late November, the Annual Copa de Careyes over the Christmas holidays, Chinese New Year – January 28, Giuliana Cup for ladies, and the 18th Annual Agua Alta and 3th Annual Agua Baja during the Semana Santa – April 7th to the 15th. The Copa de Oro is played during Pascua- April 19th through the 22nd.
