Dubai Challenge Cup – Day 3

dubai1Zedan remains unbeaten and makes it to the semifinals of the Dubai Challenge Cup 2016
In a great double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort, Zedan defeated Habtoor by 9 goals to 8 in OT and UAE Polo defeated Wolves by 10-7 in the third day of action of the Dubai Challenge Cup 2016, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and part of Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series.

Zedan, with Lucas Monteverde replacing injured Nachi Heguy, achieved their second victory in a row and is the first team to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament.

Match against Habtoor was one of the best of the seasons. Both teams played four chukkers at full speed and displaying a great polo level.
It was in OT, with a 60 yard penalty scored by Lucas Monteverde, that finally turn over the match to their side.

Match progression: Zedan: 2-1/ 3-4/ 6-6/ 9-8

In the second match of the day, UAE had a quick recovery in the Dubai Challenge Cup by defeating Wolves 10 goals to 7 with an outstanding performance by Lucas Monteverde who was the “man of the day”.

UAE Polo had a great start, achieving a 4 goal gap in the second chukker, to control the match in the second half despite Wolves great comeback in the third period.

The Dubai Challenge Cup will continue tomorrow at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort from 4 pm with Bin Drai playing against Edrees Polo.

Dubai Challenge Cup 2016

Part of Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series, The 18-goal tournament – one of the highest handicap tournaments in the region – will run from Friday March 18, 2016 to Friday April 1, 2016 at the new Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club.

Mohammed Al Habtoor, founded the Dubai Gold Cup Series in 2009. Since then it has grown in tandem with the city of Dubai. Today it is one of the highest handicap tournament in the Middle East and the fourth largest of its kind after Argentina, the US and the UK. The Gold Cup Series is split into two tournaments: the McLaren Silver Cup and the Julius Baer Gold Cup and played under the banner of the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA). It attracts polo stars from around the world, VIPs, society figures as well as senior corporate executives from across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). This year in 2016, The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series reached to have a number of 5 tournaments under its umbrella (Silver Cup, Polo Masters Cup, Gold Cup, Dubai Challenge Cup and Dubai Cup).
