“Polo in the Country” is an annual event sponsored by the Norfolk Hunt Club for the enjoyment and participation of the entire community featuring an exciting polo match, a special halftime program, and activities for everyone.
“Polo in the Country” will take place on Sunday, Sept. 8, with a rain date of the following Sunday, at the Norfolk Hunt Steeplechase Field, 240 North St., Medfield. Gates open at 11 a.m., activities begin at 12:15 p.m., and the polo match starts at 1 p.m.
This year will be the 17th consecutive year with more than 1,000 attendees expected. The proceeds are for preservation and protection of recreational space and other open space in Medfield, Dover, Sherborn and surrounding communities.
The polo match has historical significance going back to 1888 between two competitive teams from the Dedham Polo Club and the Norfolk Hunt Club. The polo game will be six “chukkers” divided into two halves of three chukkers each with an extended halftime break.
The halftime show will have special features. Children from the Norfolk Hunt Pony Club will be competing in lively riding agility exercises, races, and games mounted on miniature horses, ponies or other equines. A second halftime feature is the parade of the Norfolk Hunt Club foxhounds from the Dover-based Norfolk Kennels, one of the oldest kennels in America still in use.
Three types of seating are available: general admission; preferred table seating under tents along-side center field; and reserved tailgate spots at field edge.
