ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell women’s polo team will be on the road this weekend as it travels to the Old Line State to take on Garrison Forest on Saturday, March 5, at 2 p.m. in Owings Mills, Md. and the Maryland Polo Club on Sunday, March 6 at 11 a.m. at Marlan Farm in Freeland, Md.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Big Red had its three-game winning streak snapped last week, falling to Kentucky 26-7 at the Oxley Equestrian Center. Cornell and Kentucky traded blows early, but the Wildcats’ attack ultimately proved too potent for the Big Red. Rachel Booth led Cornell in scoring, netting four goals in the loss.
THIS SEASON:
Cornell heads into this weekend’s two-game set with an 8-7 record. The Big Red has won three of its last four outings, with its most recent wins coming against Michigan State on Dec. 3, the Central New York Polo Club on Feb. 4, and UMass on Feb. 12. This weekend’s contests against Garrison Forest and the Maryland Polo Club will be the last two regular season games before the USPA Northeast Regionals.
AGAINST GARRISON FOREST:
Cornell has faced Garrison Forest seven times since the 2011-12 season, winning five of those contests. Earlier this season, Garrison Forest knocked off Cornell 20-8 at the Oxley Equestrian Center.
AGAINST MARYLAND POLO CLUB:
Since the 2011-12 season, Cornell boasts a 5-1 record against the Maryland Polo Club. In the last meeting between the two teams, the Maryland Polo Club defeated Cornell 15-8 in the 2018-19 USPA Regionals.
HOMESICK:
While the women’s polo team has enjoyed success at the Oxley Equestrian Center this season, it has not faired as well on the road, losing its two away games against Virginia on Oct. 22 and Skidmore on Nov. 14. The Big Red will look to change that this weekend.
