Cartier Queens Cup Bank Holiday Weekend Results

Weekend wins for King Power, Aureus Polo, Sujan Indian Tigers, Desert Palm, Park Place, UAE Polo & GenrosaLeo-Clinova
The Bank Holiday weekend kicked off with three Cartier Queen’s Cup matches on Saturday 24 May at Guards Polo Club, beginning with a 12-9 win for King Power against La Magdeleine to continue their unbeaten run. Next up saw recent Prine of Wales Trophy winners, Aureus take on White Crane with Aureus looking for their first win. White Crane in their first outing in this year’s competition were leading 5-4 at half-time but Aureus pulled away in the second half to take a 12-9 win.

The final game of the day saw Kazak and Sujan Indian Tigers battling for both league status and The Royal Windsor Horse Show Cup. Jaisal Singh’s Tigers won the battle 9-8 but Kazak were in contention every step of the way. The action continued on Saturday 25 May, Day 6 of the tournament, with two family focused matches. The first saw Mia Cambiaso in action for Desert Palm, alongside her cousin, Barto Castagnola, with Mia’s brother Poroto on the opposing side for La Dolfina/Marques de Riscal. Despite the pre-match hype, the teams were so perfectly balanced that they often cancelled each other out and in the end Desrt Palm took a narrow 10-8 win.

The second match of the day played on The Queen’s Ground was a start/stop match with flashes of excellence but a lot of whistle. Matias Maldonado, subbing for Park Place patron Andrey Borodin, delivered a strong performance and was the first to score. Again the score for this match was also 10-8, with Park Place taking the win.  Both matches on Monday 26 May required extra time golden goals to decide the winners with not only both matches going into seventh chukkas but also finishing on the same scoreline. The first winners of the day were Sheikha Maitha’s UAE Polo Team, registering their second win in this year’s tournament with a narrow 10-9 win against Jehangiri Polo. The last match of the Bank Holiday weekend saw GenrosaLeo-Clinova (who had a goal on handicap at the start of the game) looking for their first win, while Ferne Park were hoping to make it three out of three. erne Park’s Cristian Laprida levelled the scores early in the sixth chukka and with the score remaining on 9-9 the match went into an extra chukka. Ferne Park had the most of possession in the seventh, but an impressive, angled shot from Alejandro Muzzio secured a 10-9 win for GenrosaLeo-Clinova.

The Cartier Queen’s Cup action continues throughout the week and Guards Polo Club Members can watch the action live via Guards TV.
