FIP Polo Youth Camp in Hamburg, Germany

fip_jugendcamp_hamburg_1Pure enthusiasm and promising talents. For four days up-and-coming young player trained during the 9th J.J.Darboven FIP Polo Youth Camp at the Hamburger Polo Club.

From 14-17 May 2015, 36 kids and teenagers from Germany, Switzerland and England participated in the FIP Polo Youth Camp at the Hamburger Polo Club. Under the direction of five experienced polo coaches, the kids and teenagers aged between 8 and 21 years received an intensive training over the course of four days. The schedule included riding, hitting techniques, horse care, horsemanship and learning the rules. More than 70 horses were in action. Following three days of training at Thomas Winter’s Hamburger Pologestüt, the tournament, taking place on Sunday at the Hamburger Polo Club, was the highlight of the weekend. Never before so many participants had completed the youth camp, which was made possible by the sponsoring of J.J.Darboven.

Thomas Winter, Germany’s best polo player and most successful coach, has already caused many successful young talents to enter the world of polo. “We are very grateful for the support of Albert Darboven, without him it would never have been possible to organise a youth camp of this size. The support of many private polo players from Hamburg, who provided their horses for the camp, was also fantastic. I am totally excited about how eager to learn and thrilled these young players are. It is a lot of fun to work with them. I see how fast and good the youth plays, provided that they learn the right basis from the beginning and in addition to that tactical playing knowledge as well as riding and hitting techniques, body control and power are also being added.”

From its inception nine years ago the camp is being supported financially by the Federation of International Polo (FIP) as well as the German Polo Association (DPV). The Hamburger Polo Club is also fully committed to supporting the camp. In 2015 the coffee roaster J.J.Darboven from Hamburg also entered the support as title sponsor of the youth camp. A lucky strike for the up-and-coming polo players. The camp’s aim is promotion of young players, an important task in the sport of polo. Since its beginning nine years ago with 10 participants, the camp has grown continuously. Young players with special talent also have the opportunity to participate in a two-week intensive training in Argentina.

The Win PoloSchule was founded in 1998 and is located in an idyllic landscape on the site of the Hamburger Pologestüt in Hamburg-Osdorf. Near at hand the famous Hamburger Polo Club can be found. At this place Thomas Winter, founder of the Win PoloSchule and Germany’s best polo player, trains the polo youth of Germany with great commitment. Polo training for kids, teenagers and grown-ups is held at a weekly basis. In addition to that and as an entry point, there is the possibility to book intensive training, taking place on the weekends. Further information can be found on www.poloschule.de
