Carlucho Arellano showed streaks of greatness Friday afternoon as he scored nine goals in leading Travieso (Lucas Arellano, Teo Calle, Juancito Bollini and Carlucho Arellano) to a 13-10 win over Odosan (Joe Chai, Ricky Mershad, Juan Redlich and Joaquín Panelo) in the opening game of the 2015 8-goal Aspen Valley Cup at the Grand Champions Polo Club Friday afternoon.

Odosan received one goal by handicap and quickly added to it with a goal from the field from Joaquín Panelo for the 2-0 lead. Carlucho Arellano responded with a goal for Travieso, 2-1. Juan Redlich extended the Odosan lead with his first goal of the day, 3-1. Carlucho Arellano cut the lead back to a single goal with the closing score of the chukker. Odosan maintained the lead, 3-2 at the end of the first.

Carlucho Arellano opened the third chukker with a goal from the field, 5-4. Redlich responded with a goal of his own to maintain the two goal lead, 6-4. Lucas Arellano tied it up with a goal from the field, 6-6, and Carlucho Arellano closed out the chukker with his fifth goal of the game for a 7-6 halftime advantage.

There was no let up from Travieso in the fourth. Carlucho Arellano scored from the field, 8-6, but Odosan answered back with a goal from Joe Chai, 8-7. Carlucho Arellano and Lucas Arellano scored the last two goals of the chukker for a 10-7 Travieso lead with two chukkers left in regulation play.

Goals were hard to come by in the fifth. Redlich scored for Odosan, 10-8, with Juancito Bollini scoring his first goal of the day for Travieso, 11-8. Ride-offs and blocked shots kept the scoring to a minimum as Travieso left the field on top of an 11-8 score.

Carlucho Arellano stretched the Travieso lead to five goals, 13-8, scoring the first two goals of the final chukker. Odosan continued to press their attack, managing single goals from Redlich and Panelo before time ran out. Travieso celebrated the 13-10 win after the final horn sounded.

Carlucho Arellano led all scoring with nine goals (eight from the field). Lucas Arellano scored twice while teammates Calle and Bollini each scored once in the win. Redlich’s five goals set the pace for the Odosan attack. Panelo added three goals; Chai added a goal and the team received one goal by handicap.
