MONTGOMERY, N.Y. – Both Cornell polo programs defeated Bluestone Farm over the weekend, with the women defeating Bluestone, 11-2, on Saturday and the men winning its season opener by a final score of 9-7 on Sunday.
“The men and women thrived in the larger outdoor arena,” said The Peter B. Orthwein ’68 Head Coach of Polo Branden Van Loon ’13. “They each played phenomenally and communicated as a team.”
It’s the first win of the season for the Cornell women, who now own a 1-1 record prior to a meeting with Melinda’s Prospect Farm on Saturday, Oct. 19. The women aim to avenge a 17-13 loss to Melinda’s Prospect Farm from last season. Saturday will mark the home opener for the women, with play starting at 2 p.m. from the Oxley Equestrian Center.
Following a season opening win, the Cornell men’s polo begins its home schedule on Friday, Oct. 18 with a 7 p.m. game against Westport Polo in Oxley. There’s a quick turnaround for the men, who travel to Skidmore College on Sunday, Oct. 20 in the final tune-up before the University of Virginia Invitational on Oct. 23.
