US Open: Iconica and Tonkawa are through semifinals

The first two matches of the US Open Polo Championship quarterfinals were played on Saturday at International Polo Club Palm Beach, in Wellington. Iconica and Tonkawa became the first semifinalists of the competition after defeating Cessna and Aspen, respectively. The two remaining quarterfinal matches will take place on Sunday.

 

With sixteen 22-goal team fighting for the title, this tournament is widely considered to be the most competitive of the year.

 

ICONICA 9-8 CESSNA

Iconica: Maureen Brennan 1, Peke Gonzalez 5 (2 goals), Sebastian Merlos 9 (5), Matias Magrini 7 (2). Total: 22.

Cessna: Chip Campbell 2, Pipe Marquez 6 (1 goal), Ezequiel Martinez Ferrario 7 (5), Felipe Viana 6 (1). Total: 21.

Score Iconica: 1-1, 2-3, 4-4, 5-6, 8-6, 9-8.

 

TONKAWA 12-11 ASPEN (Golden Goal by Sterling Giannico)

Tonkawa: Jeff Hildebrand 0, Tincho Merlos 8 (4 goals), Sapo Caset 10 (5), Sterling Giannico 4 (2). Total: 21.

Aspen: Tomas Schwencke 2 (1 goal), Lucas James 7 (3), Polito Pieres 10 (4), Stewart Armstrong 3 (3). Total: 22.

Score Tonkawa: 3-1, 6-3, 7-4, 8-7, 10-8, 11-11, 12-11.
