Wellington (CBS12) — Horse power and star power collided in Wellington. NASCAR star Kurt Busch and his wife, Ashley showed their support at the 6th Annual Polo for a Purpose Charity Event.
Ashley is a professional polo player, and utilized her competitive side to the cause today – the Polo match and event directly benefited pediatric cancer patients and their families.
“I’m so proud of my wife, with her passion for polo bleeds within my passion for NASCAR and the way we live our lives together with sports, we’re always there being number one for each other,” said Kurt Busch, NASCAR star.
To Date the charity has raised $1.2 million dollars to help find a cure for blood cancers.
“When I was 14 I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma Stage Four,” Brandon Phillips, Professional Polo player and President of Polo for Life and Co-Founder of the Polo for a Purpose event.
He beat cancer, and now gives back to those who are still fighting.
“To have these equestrian activities and events like this where they can come out and be kids and meet the horses and I have kids come to my barn, just to let them remember that they are kids,” said Phillips.
The Busch’s recently announced The Monarch Fund, which helps assist families of children undergoing cancer treatment.
“There’s many kids out here today that have gone through treatment and been successful and we’re here to support them on their journey and encourage them and motivate them that this is something they can get through,” said Ashley Busch, a Professional Polo player and founder of the Monarch Fund.
“For me, to be able to give back, it’s because so many people have inspired me and it’s easy to give back,” said Kurt Busch.
