Los Dragones and Le Pommeray HM were victorious in their respective matches played on Thursday August 19 for the historical Coupe d’Or, hosted by Deauville International Polo Club since 1950, and one of the most coveted trophies on the international calendar. The tournament sees six teams, up to 16 goals, compete.
Los Dragones dominated Barriere for most of the match, earning a three goal advantage by the time to play the fifth and last chukka. But far from giving up, Barriere hold Los Dragones back and left them scoreless, after producing three consecutive goals. However, the effort didn’t pay of and Sam Sztarkman & Co. claimed the final 9-8 win. Up next, Le Pommeray HM earned their second win in the tournament following their victory against Brittany Polo by the same score. But unlike the previous game, this was a completely different story. Brittany Polo got off to a better start, and by the end of the second chukka, they had a 3-1 lead. In the following chukka, Le Pommeray HM reinforced their attack, and scored three consecutive goals to take a 6-3 advantage. From then onwards, both teams battled hard until they reached a 8-all in regulation time, which sent the contest to extra time. That’s when Juan Gris Zavaleta produced the winning goal, to secure the win for Le Pommeray HM.
The final of the Coupe d’Or is scheduled for Sunday, August 29.
