Rose City Polo Club’s first tournament at their new grounds at Oakwood Farms gets polo rolling in the area.
The Rose City Polo Club’s debut in Molalla July 23-24 was, according to organizers, a success. In all, 31 contestants and seven teams ventured to Molalla for chukkers galore.
When the dust had settled and scores tallied, La Conner Polo Club from La Conner, Washington won the top-flight with George Dill, Emily Wang, Filipe Vicente Alberdi, and Cinderella von Falkenhausen. They also had the MVP in Filipe Vicente Alberdi. George Dill’s horse, Maco 4, won Best Playing Pony.
In the B Flight, Rose City’s Still Standin’ team took first place with Laura Johnson-Graham, Jenna Cretsinger, Dave Penetar, Narda Sherman and Cole Sherertz in the saddles.
“We gave out awards for best hat and best tailgate,” said Christy Marsing Barber, co-director of the tournament. “We had roughly 75 to 100 tailgaters and guests come and go throughout the weekend to watch and participate in the divot stomp.
“It really was a great success for our first tournament,” she added. “Everyone worked very hard to pull this off on time and we’re happy to have beat the heat wave. We had so many great compliments and I think people, riders and spectators had a really good time.”
After a week off, practice will resume for Rose City Polo Club members as they get ready for a Sept. 11-12 tournament, also at their new home field at Oakwood Farms in Molalla.
“We offer ongoing lessons for all levels of riders and players and the public is welcome to stop by and watch our practices,” Barber said. “We also offer social memberships which support our club and those members attend our events free of charge.”
Additionally, the club’s new website is up and rolling at rosecitypolo.com. Information can also be found at their Facebook page — Rose City Polo Club.
