Federation of International Polo Championship begin in Wellington this weekend
WELLINGTON, Fla. —
The Federation of International Polo World Polo Championship begins in Wellington this weekend.
The championship event will start Saturday with the opening ceremony. It’s the first time in 24 years that the largest international polo tournament will be played on American soil.
The tournament is gaining a lot of attention at the rebranded National Polo Center in Wellington. It’s the largest polo facility in the country.
Similar to the World Cup in soccer, the Polo Championship features eight teams from 25 different countries.
Team USA will have eight players, including 19-year-old Hope Arellano, the first-ever woman to compete on the U.S team, and the only woman on any team set to compete in the tournament. Advertisement
Also for the first time, the tournament will air on ESPN. The tournament is set to wrap up Nov. 6.
