Stanford Polo Retired Horses of the Year Appreciation

Before every varsity goal, every new rider’s first trot, and every unforgettable chukkar, there were the horses who carried us there. This post is dedicated to the legends of our barn—our retired horses—who gave years of strength, heart, and partnership to this team.

These ponies taught us how to trust, how to ride with feel, and how to show up with patience and grit. They’ve played hard, trained countless riders, and left their mark on our club in more ways than we can count. Now, in their well-earned retirement, we celebrate them for everything they’ve given us.

Below, you’ll find tributes to a few of our most beloved retirees—ponies who may no longer be in the lineup, but will always be in our hearts.

Tequila (Tiki): Tiki has been in our pasture for a few years now and has been a core member of the SPC. She’s taught innumerable riders to play their first chukkars, and has been a solid member of our varsity strings over the years.

Jasmine: Jasmine may be the longest resident horse in SPC history, living in our pasture for nearly 10 years. Every year, Jasmine earns the award “iron horse”, for truly being there whenever you need her. Although a little grumpy, she’s the most solid and dependable horse that the SPC has ever seen. Even though she’s retiring from work this year, we are excited that we’ll always have her in our pasture

Twisted Tea (Twea): Although Twea is one of our newer additions, she’s made an impact on SPC that will last for years to come. Every varsity chukkar, you could count on Twea to be absolutely on fire, working harder than every horse in the arena. Her speed and agility in the arena was invaluable the past two years in competition season, and although we’re sad to have her step down, we’re happy that we had the opportunity to have such an amazing pony in our string.
