Titles for Amanara, Brunei & Calatagan
The Terralpa Silver Cup concluded at Ayala Polo Club in Sotogrande over 15 – 16 August with the High, Medium and Low Goal Finals. On Friday 15 August The Medium Goal Terralpa Silver Cup Final saw Brunei and Electric Polo go head-to-head on Los Pinos Grounds. Electric Polo got off to a strong start and by half-time led 7-2, however Brunei bounced back in the second half to tie the scores 8-8 at the end of the fifth chukka. Both teams fought hard in the last chukka with the scores neck and neck, but with less than two minutes left, Rosendo Torreguitar scored the winning goal for Brunei.
Matías Mac Donough Jr. received the Most Valuable Player Award, Azemah Bolkiah was presented with the Fair Play Award and Irenita Narración, played by Custodio Eleno, was chosen as the Best Playing Pony.
On Saturday 16 August, The Low Goal Terralpa Silver Cup Final was played between Calatagan and La Capilla. Calatagan managed to remain in the lead throughout the match and held a two goal advantage going into the final chukka. Ciro Urturi, who scored five goals throughout the match, increased the gap in the last chukka to help secure a 12-8 win meaning Calatagan defended the title for the second year. Urturi was named Most Valuable Player, Guy Charloux received the Fair Play Award and Open Zelda, played by Santiago Irastorz, was chosen as the Best Playing Pony. The
Terralpa Silver Cup concluded with the High Goal Final on Saturday 16 August between Amanara and Black Bears.Amanara, who lost out to Les Lions Sainte Mesme, were looking for their first title in The 54th International Polo Tournament, and took control of the match from the second chukka onwards. They managed not to lose their momentum when Amanara’s Nicky Sen was substituted by Marty Romualdez in the fourth chukka and despite Tomás Panelo’s attempts to lead Black Bears into an extra chukka, Amanara held onto their lead to secure the win, 12-9, and their first title in Spain.
