Lake Worth, FL March 16, 2015 – The United States Polo Association® (USPA) today announced that the United States defeated England 17-12 in Saturday night’s historic 22-Goal USPA Townsend International Challenge Cup at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. The U.S. team included 10-goal player Tommy Biddle, who played on the United States’ Townsend Cup winning team in 2011 and is the highest-rated arena polo player in the world, seven-goal player Kris Kampsen and five-goal player Jared Sheldon.
In Sunday’s quarterfinal action in the 2015 USPA Piaget Gold Cup at the International Polo Club, Alegria (Julian Mannix, Hilario Ulloa, Mariano Aguerre and Sterling Giannico) knocked off Valiente 14-8 while Las Monjitas beat Lechuza Caracas 10-6. Wins by both Alegria and Las Monjitas boosted both teams into Wednesday’s semifinals where Las Monjitas will face Audi (Marc Ganzi, Rodrigo Andrade, Gonzalito Pieres and Fred Mannix) in a 2pm contest followed by a 4pm showdown between Alegria and Orchard Hill (Steve Van Andel, Ezequiel Ferrario, Polito Pieres and Facundo Pieres).
