New Polo Club in Zurich

polo-club-zuerich1After eight years of planning and a successful approval procedure the dream of polo player and much too early deceased Anton (Toni) Blatter came true. He and his wife Dominique Blatter dreamt of her own Polo Club right on the doorstep of Zurich.

In Gossau, in the Zürcher Oberland (“Zurich highlands”) only 20 minutes away from the city center, a new polo club and facility has been inaugurated in December 2015. On the about 20 hectares huge terrain stables, a polo field, a training field, the club house as well as a roofed training track, which allows to train the horses independent of weather conditions, arise. The new polo facility will blend in the historic ensemble of the homestead „Jungholz“.

The management of the new polo club has long standing experience in the sport of polo. Beside the international polo players Uwe Zimmermann and Thomas Wolfensberger, also Andreas Pestalozzi is on board. Dominique Blatter will mainly take care of the horses. A subject the new club wants to focus on is the advancement of new blood and newcomers to the sport of polo. As many players as possible shall discover their passion for this equine sport.

Uwe Zimmermann: „I am extremely glad that after so many years of preparation and planning, we start with the concrete realisation of the project. We committed a clear assignment of tasks and responsibilities and we want the new polo club to be an enrichment for the Swiss polo scene. Because of his proximity to Zurich it will attract mainly the local players. Due to it’s limited size the maximal amount of members will stay exclusive. In the season of 2016 we are already planning to host a first small tournament for which we count on the partnership with other Swiss clubs. We are looking forward to welcome many visitors and polo friends from foreign countries as well as from the Zürcher Oberland in our new club.“
