One of the most glamorous polo weddings has been announced for 2016. Charlie Hanbury and Yoanna Otto, daughter of princess Anna Oettingen-Wallerstein, have become engaged on 19th September in Munich and want to exchange vows in the near future.
For three years the two are having a relationship with each other and are living together in England. Charlie Hanbury, 29 years old, is the oldest son of Major Christopher and Bridget Hanbury. He plays with a handicap of 4 goals in England and of 5 goals in Argentina and ranks among the most successful polo players in England. Charlie learned polo early in his life at the Pony Club in England and plays professionally since 2009. This year he has won the “Queens Cup” and has been presented with the “Ronald Ferguson” award as “Best Young British Player”. With the team El Remanso he reached the final of the “Gold Cup” in 2012 and in 2013 they won “La Canada” and reached the final of the “Silver Cup” in Sotogrande. In 2014 Charlie and his team won the “Cartier Trophy”. Charlie is in Argentina very successful as well and now prepares himself for this season – especially for the “Copa Camara de Diputados” and his first auction in November.
Yoanna started to play polo in 2009 due to her parents. Amongst her highlights as a polo player are the “Pink Polo” tournament at the Thai Polo Club, owned by Harald Link, in Pattaya, Thailand, as well as the “Hermes Cup” in Jodhpur, India, hosted by His Highness Gaj Singh II The Maharaja of Marwar-Jodhpur, and the “Copa Amarilla” in El Remanso, Argentina. What Yoanna is looking for by now? “I am looking forward to the “King Cup”, elephant polo in Thailand, in which I will participate with my parents for the fourth time. Aside from that I also love to spend time at the Lovelocks Polo Stud.”
