The annual polo classic drew first timers including Matt Bomer, Kristen Bell and Michellle Monaghan to the Pacific Palisades for an afternoon of socializing, champagne and polo.
Hollywood kicked off the seventh annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in style for an afternoon of fashion, polo and endless champagne which drew Isla Fisher, Matt Bomer and Michelle Monaghan who were all first-timers to the afternoon soiree at Will Rodgers Historic State Park in the Pacific Palisades.
“I want to see the styles that everybody brings to the event. I want to people watch. I want to see what a polo match is all about,” Bomer told THR. “I love Will Rodgers Park. It’s a beautiful day in L.A. I’m going to have a glass of Veuve Clicquot and enjoy myself. It’s pretty blessed that on a Saturday in October we get to have this kind of weather.
Bomer exclaimed he “tried to keep it dapper but also cool enough that I’m not going to sweat all day” in a more casual suit while Michelle Monaghan walked the carpet in a vintage Chanel polkadot number which she referred to as a Pretty Woman moment. Vanessa Hudgens, Lea Michele, Naomie Harris, Lauren Conrad, Olivia Culpo, Zoey Deutch, Rachel Zoe, Mandy Moore, Camilla Belle and Becca Tobin were also in attendance.
“There’s so many gorgeous girls in hats!” exclaimed actress Isla Fisher who said that she was truly excited to see the horses more than day drinking. “Obviously I’m really excited about seeing the horses. I have some friends over from Australia who are really excited and never been to a polo match before so I’m just really looking forward to seeing those big beautiful horses out there on the field.”
I have a lot of friends that come to this event but I’ve never actually been so I don’t know what to expect,” said Kristen Bell who took a number from her own closet and opted to wear a vintage Prada dress she said she found at a resale shop a couple of years ago.
But with Veuve Clicquot offering their newest mixology-inspired Veuve Clicquot Rich champagne, Fisher shared the only advice she felt her friends needed for the afternoon.
“I just told them that they needed to get their drink on,” said Fisher.
Rachel Zoe and husband Rodger Berman brought their two sons Skylar and Kaius and exclaimed why they’ve been coming to the event since it started in Los Angeles. “For me this is a family day. It’s a tradition. We all come together. We always have so much fun. It’s our tradition.”

Zoe also said she came to support the events host and world renowned polo player (and Ralph Lauren model) Nacho Figueras who participated in the afternoon game with wife Delfina Blaquier (who was dressed in Rachel Zoe on the green carpet).
“Nacho and Delfina are friends of ours for I think almost 10 years. I’m so obsessed with them as people, as parents,” said Zoe. “Obviously Nacho is I think the greatest polo ever and Delfinais also unbelievable and she’s playing today which is insane. They really are the fairytale. They have four amazing children. They are incredible parents. They are incredible people and they are ridiculously beautiful”
The Polo Classic drew over 6,000 guests to Will Rogers Historic State Park to watch Figueras and Blaquier of team Black Watch take team Veuve Clicquot in a 10-8 victory. Blaquier was awarded MVP of the game.
Figueras hopes the star-studded event will bring more attention to the game of polo, which he notes was at once a pastime for many known actors. The player also hopes he can open up a polo academy in Los Angeles in the future.
“It’s been in my mind for a couple of years and I just need to make it happen but I hope that one day I can stay here for a few months and open a polo academy here and get more people, more actors to play polo,” Figueras told THR. “In the 80s Sylvester Stallone, Tommy Lee Jones, all of these guys were playing polo and I think having guys like that play polo would really be a big pull for the game so it’s in my mind at least. One day I’m going to come to LA and play for a few months and move here and be here and hopefully get a lot of guys to play.”
