A brand new tournament will bring high-goal polo to Denver this Summer: the 2017 Colorado Open Polo Championship. Played at 20-goal the event will take placeAugust 2-19 at Valiente Polo Farm in Littleton.
The tournament will feature many top players, including Adolfo Cambiaso, Diego Cavanagh and Matías Torres Zavaleta, hot off their American Triple Crown triumph in Florida with Bob Jornayvaz in April and currently playing the English high-goal season. Also playing in August will be Valiente’s 2015 U.S. Open winning effort’s teammate Guillermo Terrera.
In addition to featuring players at the highest levels of the sport, the Colorado Open was created to expand high-goal polo to the reach of developing players and young pros. “We want to increase opportunities for up-and-coming players to compete in a tournament that will give them exposure and the chance to improve their skills,” said tournament organizer Rob Jornayvaz, who anticipates making the Colorado Open an annual event.
To that extent, the tournament will include several notable young players, among them Tommy Collingwood, Nacho Badiola, Mariano Gracida, Juan Martín Obregon, and others.
Team entries are still open. Horses are available for teams upon request. All games in the 2017 Colorado Open will be live streamed on polochannel.com.
