A new season kicks off at Deauville Polo Club on Wednesday, and the count down for the prestigious Gold Cup commences.
The Coupe d’Argent will begin tomorrow; the tournament sees four 16-goal teams in competition. The distinguished Cibao La Pampa team, who finished a successful season in Saint Tropez on Sunday, will be participating; three of the four players will travel to Deauville for the tournament.
The competition will see several high goal players take to the field, such as Francisco Elizalde, Tito Ruiz Guiñazú, Pancho Bensadon, Martincito Aguerre, and Jota Chavanne, among others.
Polo forms a key part of Deauville’s culture. People were stick and balling in the hippodrome towards the end of the nineteenth century, when polo was gaining popularity around Europe after the Brits brought it over from India.
