Tortugas Final

Ellerstina to play La Dolfina at Palermo

The Asociación Argentina de Polo (AAP) has announced that the Final of the 77th Tortugas Open will be played this weekend, on Saturday 7 October at 4pm, in Palermo.

Yesterday, Wednesday 4 October, a meeting was held between the current board of directors and the Tortugas Country Club management team. Following extensive rain, the decision was taken by the President of the AAP, Eduardo Novillo Astrada and Tortugas Country Club President Francisco Dorignac to move the Final of the Tortugas Open, the Emilio Anchorena Cup, to Ground One at Palermo.
Following the decision Eduardo Novillo Astrada said, “Today we spoke with ‘Frankie’ Dorignac and we reached an agreement. The Final of the Tortugas Open will be held in Palermo next Saturday. I think it’s a good move for all of us who want this sport to grow. Obviously, it was not an easy choice because behind all this there are commercial interests. It was a logistical decision, but we are both people who love this sport and want the best for it, which is why we sat down, talked and agreed. I think it is excellent news and everyone wins, especially polo itself.”
The Final will see age-old rivals La Dolfina and Ellerstina battle it out for the coveted trophy, the first tournament in the 2017 Triple Crown series. Most notably, the last time these two teams played each other on the Palermo ground was in the Final of the 2016 Argentine Open, when La Dolfina won 16-12.
