King Power Gold Cup Finalists

El Remanso & La Bamba de Areco reach the Final

Yesterday, Wednesday 18 July, the Semi Finals of The King Power Gold Cup were played at Cowdray Park Polo Club. Spectators were treated to two excellent displays of polo, with both matches finishing on overtime.

First-up, 2017 finalists El Remanso faced 2018 Cartier Queen’s Cup champions La Indiana. This year is the last time that the all-Brit line-up of El Remanso will be taking part in the UK high goal, and you could see the ambition on the players’ faces – they were in it to win it. Thanks to a golden goal by Ollie Cudmore, El Remanso secured their place in Sunday’s Final, 14-13.

Next, it was the turn of 2009 Gold Cup winners La Bamba de Areco and Decaux has been all guns blazing this year, pulling out all the stops with La Bamba’s line-up. Unfortunately, the determined duo of Stirling and Nero was disrupted as an injured Pelòn Stirling had to be replaced by Polito Pieres. RH Polo took advantage of this alteration and led for the majority of the match, but it was not enough to stop the goal scoring prowess of Nero who secured the winning goal in overtime, with the scores reading 10-9.

This result means that it will that the 2009 Gold Cup winners La Bamba de Areco will face 2017 Gold Cup finalists El Remanso on Sunday 22 July in what is expected to be a hotly contested battle for the title.
