Dubai Wolves Wins on the Opening Day of the Dubai Challenge Cup 2019

The fourth tournament of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series officially opened with a victory for Dubai Wolves against Shansal/PBS and a final score of 9 goals to 8.

Shanshal/PBS had a one and half goal advantage and the team took the lead from the first chukker against the Dubai Wolves until halftime. Marcos Araya delivered goals which took the match into a close fight towards the end of the penultimate chukker. The last seven minutes ensued with goals coming in from bought sides and Shanshal / PBS on the lead only to be beaten by the last goal from Justo Cuitino. The match ended with a final score of 9 goals to 8.5 in favour of the Dubai Wolves.

The Dubai Challenge Cup, a 12 goal handicap tournament will continue on the 18th March 2019 at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club with a match between UAE Polo and AM Polo teams at 16:00.
The Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series held in the UAE is one of only five tournaments in the world played in the WPT Championship Cup category, on a par with world-class events held in Argentina, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States. It was founded by its Chairman Mohammed Al Habtoor in 2009. The Silver Cup and the Dubai Challenge Cup falls under the World Polo Tour (WPT) Challenge Cup Category awarding the winners of the Silver Cup with 50 points, the finalists with 25, semi-finalists with 10 and the rest of the players with 5 points; and Dubai Challenge Cup winners with 20 points. The Gold Cup is under the WPT Championship Cup – the highest competition in terms of points, awarding its winners with 80 points.

Amity Polo Cup 2019
The excellent display of polo continued as the first Amity Polo Cup 2019 in the UAE was played at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club. The Cup was oganised by Amity Humanity Foundation in partnership with Al Jalila Foundation, saw two teams compete under the team banners of RAK Bank and Gulf Islamic Investments with the following players:

The first goal was scored by Mohammed Al Habtoor for RAK Bank and the team took on the lead all the way up to the third chukker. The defining chukker saw Sheikha Mozah Al Maktoum score two goals, and Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan scored one and had the teams tied at 3 goals each. A fifth chukker was expected with 30 seconds left on the clock, however, a last-second goal from Tommy Beresford sealed the win for RAK Bank team at 4 goals to 3.
The event was graced with the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, Dr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor of Amity University Dubai and VIP guests from the Al Jalila Foundation, RAK Bank, Gulf Islamic Investments and more.
