SUPA University Winter Nationals

Rugby Polo Club welcomes 202 teams

Each year, hundreds of students gather at Rugby Polo Club for the epitome of the university season, The SUPA University Winter National Championships. Between 6 – 9 February, 202 teams competed in weather from all four seasons across 26 leagues for the coveted silverware. Nottingham were the overall winners, picking up four division titles: Novice 1, Novice 2, Novice 3 and Novice 4 Blue, but every university had impressive turn out, with numbers once again up this year.

The Polo Times Best Playing Pony rug was awarded to Corita, a lovely bay mare, owned by Druids Lodge Polo Club, who played her heart out over the four days. This year’s Most Valuable Player, awarded a delicious bottle of British Polo Gin Sloe Gin, was Abby Grant from St Andrews University, whilst Cameron Bee was named Most Improved Player, and earnt himself a pair of new kneepads, courtesy of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers. A full report will follow in the next issue of Polo Times, so be sure to update your subscription here now so as not to miss out.
