British Open Gold Cup: Scone and Thai Polo claim wins

The British Open Gold Cup continues this week with the last league rounds, the final qualification stage before the quarterfinals due over the weekend (Saturday, July 17 and Sunday, July 18). The championship is recognised as one of the three Grand Slams of Polo, alongside the Argentine Open and the US Open. This year’s tournament sees thirteen teams, up to 22 goals, compete.

First up, Thai Polo claimed a solid 14-10 win over Murus Sanctus. The latter overwhelmed the French squad (who had Kayley Smith filling in for Corinne Ricard) with a magnificent display of teamwork, allowing them to maintain the advantage over the six chukkas of play.

Up next, Scone defeated UAE Polo Pod (who received one goal on handicap) by 10 goals to 7. While UAE Polo Pod got off to a stronger start, Scone managed to make a comeback in the second half and secure the win.

Action continues on Tuesday, July 13:

12pm: Vikings vs. King Power (ground TBA in the morning)

3pm: Park Place vs. Emlor (ground TBA in the morning)

The Gold Cup final is scheduled for Sunday, July 25.
