CV Whitney Cup: Saturday wins for Coca Cola and Park Place

The CV Whitney Cup, the first leg of The Gauntlet of Polo, continued on Saturday, February 27, with two matches at International Polo Club Palm Beach. The tournament sees nine teams, up to 22 goals, compete.

In the day’s opener, Coca Cola beat Santa Clara 13-10, led by a spectacular Nico Pieres who found the flags eight times, including three unanswered goals in the last chukka to seal the win. Up next, Park Place, with Juan Britos back on the saddle after an injury, had no trouble at all to defeat Cessna by a 10-6 score.

The CV Whitney Cup final is scheduled for Sunday, March 7.

COCA COLA: Gillian Johnston 2 (3 goals), Mackenzie Weisz 4, Nicolás Pieres 9 (8), Julián de Lusarreta 8 (2). Total: 22.

SANTA CLARA: Will Johnston 2, Pipe Vercellino 6 (8 goals), Miguel Novillo Astrada 9 (2), Luis Escobar 5 (1). Total: 22.

Score Coca Cola: 1-2, 3-3, 5-4, 6-7, 9-8, 13-10.


PARK PLACE: Jack Whitman 0 (1 goal), Juan Britos 8 (2), Hilario Ulloa 10 (3), Matt Coppola 4 (4): Total: 22.

CESSNA: Chip Campbell 2 (1 goal), Ezequiel Martinez Ferrario 7, Nino Obregón 7 (3), Jared Zenni 6 (2). Total: 22.

Score Park Place: 4-0, 6-2, 7-2, 7-2, 9-3, 10-6.

The CV Whitney Cup will resume on Sunday February 28, with the last qualifying matches:  

10am: Aspen-Dutta Corp vs. Scone

3pm: Pilot vs. Tonkawa
