LAHORE – BN/Barry’s lifted the coveted trophy after edging out Remounts by 8-7 in the thrilling final of the 2nd Allama Iqbal Polo Cup 2022 sponsored by KFC that concluded here at the Jinnah Polo Fields (JPF) on Sunday.
Hamza Mawaz Khan emerged as hero of the final from BN/Barry’s, who had two goals handicap advantage, with three tremendous goals while Ernesto Trotz banged in a brace and Hilario Ruiz Guinaziu hit one. From Remounts, Simon Prado and Nico Roberts hammered a hat-trick each while Imran Shahid struck one.
BN/Barry’s started the match having two goals handicap advantage and converted three more goals to take 5-0 lead. Remounts scored a 30-yard penalty to make it 5-1. The only goal of the second chukker was slammed in by Remounts, making it 5-2. The third chukker was evenly poised as both the sides banged in a brace each, with BN/Barry’s still enjoying a 7-4 lead.
The fourth and last chukker saw Remounts playing aggressive polo and hammering a hat-trick to level the score at 7-7. No more goals were scored afterwards and the final was then decided in the sudden death chukker, where BN/Barry’s smashed in a match-winning goal to win the title by 8-7.
KFC CEO Humayun Sajid graced the concluding ceremony as chief guest while Brand Manager Farhan, TCL Pakistan GM Sunny Yang, Director Marketing Majid Niazi, Princeton Farms President Mustafa Jahangir Bhatti, JPF President Lt Col (R) Shoaib Aftab, Secretary Maj (R) Babar Mahboob Awan, film stars, polo players, their families and polo fans were also present there.
The subsidiary final was also a fifth-chukker encounter, where BBJ Pipes defeated Diamond Paints by the same margin of 8-7, a rare coincidence in the game of polo as the main final was also decided in the same way with the same score of 8-7. From BBJ Pipes, Raja Sami Ullah fired in four goals while Raja Temur Nadeem hit two and Abdul Rehman Monnoo and Ahmed Zubair Butt one each. From Diamond Paints, Ahmed Ali Tiwana scored four goals and Guy Gibrat three.
