At the beginning of the season, before the Jockey Club Open, we spoke about how La Dolfina had started a trend last year, being the first big team to take part in the tournament which precedes the Argentine Triple Crown. Ellerstina, Alegria and La Aguada Las Monjitas followed suit.
The year was 1975. Around that time polo was dominated by Coronel Suarez and Santa Ana, and by a player who made up the former, Juan Carlos Harriott, better known as Juancarlitos.
Despite being delayed due to heavy rain, the first ever Lovelocks Polo Stud Auction took place on the evening of Tuesday 10 November at La Indiana Polo Club in Pilar, Argentina.
It was no surprise to anyone when La Dolfina and Ellerstina came out on top after the qualifying rounds of the HSBC Hurlingham Open, and the Final had all the makings of a now somewhat predictable Triple Crown Final, but on Saturday 7 November the two teams truly wowed the crowds with some spectacular polo and kept the spectators gripped to the fast paced action.
